STRESS AND GRAVITY GETTING YOU DOWN?

The average person loses 2 to 4 inches in height
to the ravages of stress and gravity.
The descent is gradual. Not noticed at first.
Shoulders round. Chest slumps.
And suddenly potbellies appear.

LOOSING THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE?

Want to Win the Battle of the Bulge?

PSOAS, POSTURE AND POSITIVITY

Psoas are a deep band of core muscles that support your spinal column. Attached anterior to the spinal vertebrae and posterior to the frontal abs, psoas cannot be seen or touched.

Unseen as they are psoas are your single most important ally against the battle of the bulge.

Working in unison with the frontal abs or abdomini erectus as shown in fig. A. The psoas stretch or push upward to lift chest and rib cage while the frontal abs contract or pull back into the upper abdominal cavity.

If psoas slacken or weaken as they do thru prolonged sitting and driving, the rib cage is pulled downward. The tummy distends forward and the head slumps.

Lower back begins to sway or arch inward - putting pressure on lower lumbar. And the waistline gradually disappears as shown in fig. B.

Strong psoas push thoracic vertebrae upward to lift chest and ribcage. This upward push takes weight off the lower lumbar and helps to prevent back tension, disc shrinkage, hip problems, osteoporosis and shoulder-neck tension.

Psoas also stretch downward into the inner hips and femur where they join the iliacus muscle and merge into the iliopsoas.

More information on the interaction of hips, legs, psoas and lower back tension will be available soon. Also learn how posture affects positivity.
